How do I count my steps?
If you're wearing a pedometer, enter your pedometer steps into the “Enter number of steps:” box, then click the count steps “add” button. If you wear a pedometer when you are participating in activities, only count your pedometer steps, do not also count the time you spent doing that activity. Wearing a pedometer while participating in activities then tracking both the pedometer steps and the time spent participating in activities doubles your activity level and provides inaccurate tracking results.
Also, be sure that your pedometer is calibrated properly to ensure it is tracking correctly. First, attach your pedometer to your pants at waist level in alignment with the centre of your thigh. Next, do a 20 step test and take a look at your pedometer to ensure it is tracking accurately. Finally, repeat on occasion to ensure that it is still functioning properly.
Note: If you filled out your stride length on your profile page (if it was asked), your stride length will be accounted for in the personal routes distance. (total kms/miles) Your stride length is also taken into consideration when you add steps from a pedometer and will be shown on the "My progress" widget on the user dashboard (and the activity tracker page) in the distance calculation. However, your stride length is not considered on challenge maps or in the challenge rankings calculations. (Challenge maps/rankings are still based on 1,320 steps per km or 2,120 steps per mile.
